Hey There,

I recently was posed a question by my dear wife. Why shouldn't we stop providing for the rest of the world and pull our ranks back to our shores and become a little more isolated and stop this funneling of every extra penny we have to everyone but ourselves?
It was a good question and one that I had to think about for a moment. I finally said; To me it's like knowing someone hated me for whatever reason and for lack of a better one let's say it's my religion. I'm not one of them so I should die. So what should I do. I have a gun and I'm in this little world of people that have nothing to do with the melee but will become collateral damage if I stay here to protect them. Should I go out and find this person that wants to kill me in his own little world or wait for him to come to me and kill him. I'm certainly on my own turf that I know better than his but still in the wind is that someone besides me will get hurt, maybe all of them. Who knows when a killer has killed me what he's going to do next.
Isolationism is good up to a point but since we know that we can be killed and will be killed by known assassins it's my thought that I should take the fight to their little world and be ever vigilant about collateral damage.
Protecting ourselves sometimes creates unsolvable problems that are best looked at in their basic forms then we can react accordingly.

Lesson #2:

Hey There;

I hope everyone understands why I'm giving English Grammar lessons. First to teach myself and second with the advent of LOL and OMG I think it's about time we get our language back so that there are no misunderstandings of translation. It seems to me this causes great problems everywhere.
One of the supposed sentences that gives me chills is when someone says; "You want to go with."
How many things are wrong there! Do I want to go with who, where? Finish the damn sentence you lazy bums.
Lesson #2: This is taken from the Grammar book of Gary Lutz and Diane Stevenson.
Verbs and Tenses:
Verbs are complicated parts of speech. Their parts, forms, and attributes can be categorized and classified in many ways. At the most basic level, verb stems ( be in to be, run in to run) change -- or, are conjugated-- to match the subject in number (singular or plural) and to indicate the time (past, present, or future) when the action of the verb occurs.

Isn't that a mouthful but understandable. Thanks for taking the time to read and understand lesson #2.

Hey I'm back,

Again it's been a while since I've written but I'm making a New Years resolution. Oh crap I just didn't say that did I. Well I did and I'm not going for the back space bar. I mean it and that's all I'm going to say about it because the "proof is in the pudding" as my momma used to say. God bless that woman's soul for putting up with me and all my "shenanigans" as my father used to say and I'm not going to God bless him because he didn't put up with my "shenanigans".
Hey I wanted to tell you that I just got through reading "Operation Dark Heart". The acronyms were overwhelming but I muddled through constantly going back to the legend to keep pace with where he was and kind of where I was.
A little dry for me but I understood what he was trying to say and why. Why he thinks how important the Afghanistan war is and why it's necessary that we should win the hearts of the people and keep Karzai in power from a "Spook's" point of view. It's insightful and gives a good detailed account of what goes on over there.
I'm not normally a reader of nonfiction accounts of anything but the jacket looked good and it kept my interest enough for me to wade through it. It's not a fast read but it's interesting and something we should all take an interest in. We need to each make a decision for ourselves whether in this next upcoming election whether we take on Ron Paul's isolationism and line ourselves up with the Constitution or the very right hard line of "kill the bastards" that killed almost as many in Pearl Harbor. Our friends and neighbors and loved ones.
We can also look to the middle road for someone that can serve and protect. Don't know who he or she is yet but I'll get back to you.

Hey,

I'm sorry I haven't written much lately but I've been busy writing another novel. In the middle of it now but I thought I'd give my self a break and learn something while giving anyone that wanted a Grammar lesson. I know I can use all the knowledge I can get when it comes to Grammar. So I thought I'd start at the beginning and as I say a lot in my novels "clarify". Anything that has quotes is from "The Writer's Digest Grammar Desk Reference" by Gary Lutz and Diane Stevenson. Let's get to our first and most basic lesson.

"Proper nouns vs. common nouns; A proper noun names one specific person, thing, or place (Woofy, Mount Everest), whereas a common noun names a class or group (dog, mountain).

Concrete nouns vs. abstract nouns: A concrete noun refers to a material object (the table, a dog), whereas an abstract noun refers to something intangible (love, art).

Count nouns vs. noncount (or mass) nouns: A count noun identifies something that can be preceded by many or fewer, and can become plural with the addition of -s: fewer coins, many rivers. A noncount noun designates something that cannot become divisible, such as money, tuberculosis, or happiness. Noncount nouns can be preceded by much and less. Thus He ate fewer cookies today is correct, not less cookies, and I prefer less cream in my coffee is correct, not fewer cream. Often, abstract nouns are noncount nouns as well: honor, duty, authority, love.

How about all of that info. Actually I'm going to have to read it over again and probably again. That count and noncount stuff confused me.

Hey have a good day,

Changing on a Dime

Hey,

The title for the Stricland, Scanlon novel finally came out while I was writing the other day. It was the second time I could use the phrase and almost didn't. You're not supposed to repeat that stuff but it seemed so appropriate for the mood of what I was writing and voila the light bulb went off in my head and it made all the sense in the world. I couldn't have done better if I tried.
I'm looking forward to getting this one up on the website and speaking of websites I've got six new ones coming soon to an internet theater near you. I hope you take the time to go look through them when they're up. They should be fun to run through. I'll have audio's of short synopsis's of each book. I've had a hell of a time getting the audios just right. There will be the pic of the month by Moody Wench Reflections. A trick of the computer trade by Dan the Computer Man and I'm going to throw in my best recipe of the month. It should be a hoot and a holler.

Stricland and Scanlon at there best

Hey,

As tough as Scanlon is, she's got a heart of gold. Probably sometimes to easy of a touch but she's got good people around her like Bobby so no one takes advantage. Townsend epitomizes someone that wouldn't think of taking advantage of anyone. She's the breath of air that Scanlon needs in her jaded and unthinkable life to set the world straight for her after all the long hard years yearning for one thing and one thing only.

Watching the Character grow

Hey,

Can't wait to get another novel up. Working title "Stricland and Scanlon". I'm sure that will change as soon as I see it in the novel. This one is a long one and it's been difficult. This was one of the ones that I hand wrote just to see if I could do it and what was it like before the dawn on the typewriter then voila the laptop.
One thing I can say is that when you're writing by hand you really can't go back and change things very easily so what you do is note it down on the side then when you type it in you try and remember what your thoughts were at the time. Have you ever tried to read your handwriting after a year being away from it? God is that special.
Anyway I'm about two thirds through and I finished reading the handwritten pages and there is no way I can leave it the way I've ended it. I'll have to carry on when I get there. The two main characters deserve better. Couple of Kansas City detectives that know their stuff. Wish me luck.

New Book Soon

Hey,

I'm in the throws of another novel. Bet you couldn't guess since it's been so long that I've written anything. I've had a good run with this one and I'm just a few weeks from being done at least with the second draft. This one should be the longest one yet. I think I'm getting touched by the Blarney Stone. You'll understand that one when you read it.
Hope everyone is doing what they love to do. I am and I'm glad I'm doing it. May not be making much at it yet but my books keep selling and I'll have that wonderful readership in no time. Thanks to everybody that's buying my books. I'm humbled.

Mother's Day

Hey,

I live with two of the best Moms there are. Mother and daughter. I'm married to the mother and the daughter is my step daughter. We've had a good time over the years and I'm looking forward to many more. Our daughter has three children of her own now. Henry is the oldest and just turned four. Then there's Anna who has been termed the pterodactyl because she has a set of lungs and vocal chords that rival prehistoric animals but she's the cutest thing alive and I love her to death. She's two. Then's there's the best baby ever born and that's Gretta. She does more cooing than any baby I've ever known and she's going to be another man killer just like her sister. It's a good thing to be living so close to them.

Back at it

Hey,

Boy did I take some time from it all. I didn't realize I had laid low for so long. I think it was right after the 18th that I finished the last book in the Ross and Jena trilogy and I just shut my ass down and tried to not think of a thing one way or the other. My finger tips were bleeding and my soul was drained and I needed some time to recoup.
I started editing one of my favorite books that I had hand written a year or two ago. Right now Stricland and Scanlon is the working title. Once I get through the book the title will come. I've just got to type it up and revise and edit a lot to make it work at least for me.

Just liked the last one too much

Hey,

It's been way to long since I've written anything but it was because I loved what Wanda (my muse) said about the book. If it wasn't for readers like her I'd have a tough time keeping on, keeping on. I love writing and I would probably keep on but I love the good feedback; now the bad is a different story but I brace myself for the odd person that thinks it's a good thing to batter the author. It's one of the points that us authors have to take into account. That some people need to sling arrows to hurt and try and kill off the creative process. I think that if these people would push their creative side and put it out there once and see what the public says and take the slings and arrows of their peers they would have a better idea of what it's like. It's tough but then again sitting and writing 90.000 words is pretty tough too.
Hope things are doing great for everyone out there and he's one guy that loves anything creative that anyone does. It makes the world go around a little nicer.

What you say?

Hey,

I thought I'd let someone else talk about my books today. My muse for the last three books that I've written, had a comment on the first one of the Ross and Jena series. If you ever get a chance to meet this lady you should, Wanda is one of the best.
Bob has written the perfect action-adventure novel. If you like Robert B. Parker or James Patterson, you'll love this! With a cast of characters that keep you guessing throughout the book, "Last Ones Standing" takes you on a non-stop thrill ride from beginning to end. I would have to say though, that Jena is my favorite. Her tough, "take no prisoners" persona is direct and to the point and had me rooting for her all through the book! Then, there are moments that I literally shed tears for her for all her vulnerabilities. Thank you Bob for letting me be your Jena. I'm stronger now.

Love you and thank you so much,

Wanda

With a fan like this how could I ever think I could stop writing. Thanks Wanda. Love you too.

Having a Blast

Hey,

I think springtime is upon us here up north in Duluth. It's been another long cold winter but it was beautiful. Lots of snow for the skiers either downhill or the cross country crazies. The snowmobile trails were perfect this year and we even had a couple of snows worthy of snowball fights and snowmen.
But now comes my favorite time of the year. Where all of a sudden the trees go from sticks to full blown majesty in a week. It's one of the wonderful miracles of springtime. I even saw my first robin yesterday. Although a muted female she was a little on the thin side and she was doing her best to scratch out a living.
Got to get back to work writing so I can scratch out mine.

Blaze of Glory

Hey,

Well a blaze of glory was what Ross and Jena were trying to do. They didn't quite die but Ross got shot in the ass one more time and both got shot up real bad. They were saved by one of the most unlikely people. This guy usually comes back for no one. Things have changed for Louis though since the death of his daughter or should I say murder.
Just another tidbit to let everyone know that I'm still writing no matter what. I might even have to delete it all and start over but not right now.

Trouble on the High Seas

Hey,

Just letting everyone know that the novel is coming along slowly. I get to this part of any book and it always seems to drag at around the 200 page mark. I guess the grind gets to be a grind right in there when I can't see the end and the middle is muddling around trying to break free. My protagonist characters are always biting off more than they can chew and sometimes they have to pay for their egos and then sometimes no matter what they do they're caught and can't find their way out of whatever is going to happen.
This time Jena and Ross are caught in Mexico not being able to get out because their vehicles have either been destroyed or not enough room in the others. They're trying to get out on horse back and it seems aircraft fly faster than horses can run. It's not looking good for them. It is the last novel of this series so I'm thinking that maybe they should die in a blaze of glory but it's hard for me to do that. I like happily ever after endings. It's the middles that are full of blood and guts.

How's the next novel coming?

Yeah,

Yeah that's what I want to know. Well it's coming along slower than most. Too many things have been going way to well these days and I'm having trouble getting my characters to get to the business at hand. You'd think I wanted to write a novel about a love affair or something. I think I'm losing my grip of the bad guy versus the good guy and the good guy getting it done, whatever that might be.
I've got a publisher looking at all my stuff and we might find some terms that we both can live with. A contract isn't a contract until both people sign it.

Hey There

Hey,

I had to update to tell about yesterday. Starting out wasn't what I would call waiting with baited breath for the upcoming events but as it turned out it was great. We went to the Mall of America and what a place to shop and ride roller coasters. I can't ride them anymore because of and inner ear thing but I can watch and have just about as much fun as the people riding them. Grace was caught having so much fun that I've put the pic up as my wallpaper on my desktop. Even the kids being a little on the sick side didn't deter any of us, even them, from having a great time.
And about my inner ear? It doesn't seem to stop at roller coasters but when we went through Sea Life, an underground aquarium that has you walking through tunnels with water on three sides, the movement of the water against the curved glass gave me a hard time focusing then of course the inner ear started wondering what it was doing instead of doing it's job and I had to walk out of there with my feet a little wider apart than normal (okay maybe a lot wider) looking like a drunk ready to puke.
It was worth it though seeing the sharks and seahorses but my favorite was the sea turtle. they almost look you could give them a hug.

A Big Surprise

Hey,

Last night I got the biggest surprise of my life. Well maybe not the biggest but it's up there in the top ten. As everyone should know by now that I'm the proverbial starving artist. Writing and sending off manuscripts and doing my own thing on the web with the help of some great people. I should have known that I couldn't do it myself. Art doing the book covers, Dan doing the computer work and taking care of the store, Grace editing and keeping me on task (the task Mistress) and my daughter and son-in-law giving me a roof over my head.
Now my daughter and son-in-law come to me last night and gave me a hundred bucks and says for me to buy the e-writer software program that I've needed for the last few months to get my stuff into Kindles. I couldn't believe the generosity and love. His only real comment was "that's what family is for and look all that you've done for us". I'm not sure what I've done but I'll keep doing it whatever it is.
I also wanted to take a moment and say for all to see that all my creative work is to pass on to my wife first then Michael and Melody and their three kids only. They are the ones that have believed in me and my work and they should have any profits that might just come from them.
Okay I've said enough for one day so just remember http://www.dayofthedogs.com and the proceeds go to the kids. All I need is a little food and water, well make that coffee so I can stay awake longer.

This is new

Hey,

This is new at least for me, Hawaiian Music. The gentleman Art Hadley that does my book covers has got a thing for Hawaiian Music. Try out Hawaiian Music 101. I'll get the URL soon. I listened last night and tried to write more of the Ross and Jena book but couldn't because the music was so soothing my anger just wouldn't come through to the page. I wrote about three pages and then dumped it all. It was too much of a (how should I say this nicely) pansy maybe.
I know what I'm going to write listening to that music though. A great love story because that's about all that fits with that music. It was really great and I loved sitting in the middle of the night all alone and listening to something that soothed and calmed the tattered soul.

Hey,

Ross and Jena have freed another bunch of girls and are now backed up against a wall with the Federales after them too. The FBI is slow to get its go on and everything is coming down around them. There was a new character that slipped in for a while. Airlia. I thought she was going to have the same kind of spunk that Jena has but maybe not.
Cathy, Sally, Kate and Crissy are with them now and are looking forward to getting home. It's not coming as fast as anyone would like.

Just Yaking

Hey,

Okay I tried not to do it but I couldn't help myself. I started another novel. I've finished editing three so I'm going to give myself a reward. I think this will be the last of the Ross and Jena novels for a while. I really like the two characters and I hope to bring out more of there personalities in this writing. I'm not sure how dark Ross's past is but I know it's not as gruesome at Jena's. She been through hell and back and she's still standing.
Finally Ross is not hindered with The Group or the Judge or the FBI. He's in this because he hates the people that kidnap and put young girls into the human trafficking business. He's on a mission now and not encumbered with such trite things like the law. The law has failed miserably for these young girls and he's about to even the odds for them.

Fourth book

Hey,

Art has worked his magic and the book cover for "Last Ones Standing" is done. It's really great work on his part. He can take real crap and turn it into diamonds. If you ever need any artwork done he's your man.
Just started the third novel in the series and can't wait to see what the characters are going to do. To tell the truth I was very hesitant about starting another novel because it seems as though all of them are very violent in nature. I wondered about that for quite a while but I had one of those "Duh" moments; deep down inside I'm very angry.
When it occurred to me it shook my soul dreadfully. I mean to tell you I gasped for air at the realization and grabbed my chest out of pure panic. Nobody in their right mind should be that angry and maybe I need a shrink so I don't kill somebody. Of course the people that I might shoot would be very deserving but I knew I could never do that, at least I didn't think so.
Long story short, I was nervous especially about going to jail for the rest of my life and I thought I better do something then it dawned on me. Hell no! I'm not going to do a damn thing about it. I've written God only knows how many novels because of it and the last thing I want to do is stop writing.
So, watch out world I'm writing from my soul and I know it. Remember http://dayofthedogs.com

The Tedious Work is Done

Hey out there,

Finally the tedious work is done. My muse Jena (Wanda) likes the book a lot. She even helped me work a few spots that needed help. It was great working with her especially working with someone that likes my work.
That's what I've been doing instead of writing on my blog. I shouldn't let this go so long except it seems as though as long as I can remember I've had this one track mind that doesn't let me do much more than one thing at a time. I don't have those synapses that travel from area to area in my brain; they all stay in one place. Damn the bad luck but oh well I've lived with it for sixty years I guess I don't have a choice in the matter. If I did I'd have a photographic memory with total recall and could juggle a hundred things at once. Maybe in my next life.

Just about ready to get selling

Hey,

It seems as though I worry about everything these days. Enough so I can't sleep at night which makes me get up out of bed and start writing again. Maybe the worrying isn't a bad thing if it gets me writing. I find it's about the only thing that makes my mind rest. After about an hour or so in the wee hours of the morning I can't see the screen and the words are blurring and my head is nodding and I finally figure it's time to stop. I usually delete the last two paragraphs that I wrote the night before because they make absolutely no sense. One time I was actually writing about different characters in another book. I really liked those characters and I don't really blame myself for wanting to snuggle up to them before I go to bed.

Hey,

One of the novels I write I'm going to set the scene up here in MN and have my hero or heroine flying down Spirit Mountain being chased by the villains trying to kill them. Of course they will be faster and better shots but still have a close call. All my guys get shot up sometimes but rarely do they meet their demise. I do recall one though that I'm real sad I killed off. He was a great character, maybe my best. Detective Stephan Von De Cruz. He was the type of guy you'd want to sit down and have a drink with. Guess it's time

Hey,

Guess it's time to write another blog. I'm kind of limp on just exactly what's going on because I'm EDITING again. Damn it. A writer shouldn't have to edit his stuff. It's such a waste of time. The whole business of writing. Not writing but the business of writing. I need a program that will do all the editing for me and even change sentences around so that they sound better and make more sense. Where is that program. It could scan all the work that I've done then it would know how I write then change things when I screw up. It would naturally take the "it's" and turn them into "its" and the "their" into "there" and the "you" into "your" and on and on and on.
When I get into the zone I never worry about those words or many like them because I'm in the zone writing the plot and I could care less about the words. Of course when it's all over then I have to care and the tedious job starts. I hate tedious jobs. but as a starving artist I guess I'll have the tedious work to do. Maybe one day someone that loves tedious work will need a job and I'll be able to afford it and I can help that person fulfill their dream and I get to fulfill mine. What a wonderful world it is.

The New Year is here

Hey guys and gals,

What an event in my life! It happened that my muse read the book that one of the characters is loosely based on and she cried when she read the part about "the best revenge is living well". To read and feel that comment may have taken me to new heights of humility, ego, happiness and pride that till now I have never encountered in my life. It's a wonderful experience that I long for more than even the applause for a song well sung or a scene in a theater done perfectly. The feeling of touching someones' heart and giving them credence felt incredibly right. I long for the day that I can do it again.

New Writings

Hey,

I'm hoping for a great new year. One where I do more writing than editing. Yeah that will be the day huh. I've got a couple of new books coming this month if everything works right and the way things have been working I'm pretty sure they'll be up and going. I've got the perfect place to write and I'm even going to read one of the books to a CD and if that works well I just might do some more. As I said it's going to be a full year with everything I'm doing. I can only hope that everyone else has just as great a year as I do.

Talk soon,

Hey a New Year

Hey,

I stayed up last night reading so that I could kiss my girl at 12.01. I think she was asleep but that was okay I just needed to know that I'd be with her this year. I can't think of a soul that could stand to be around me 24-7. She is my best friend and I don't know what I'd do without her. She's a rock through good and bad.
This last year has been tough but it's been tough on a lot of people so I'm not going to whine around in self pity. I like rolling in it. No I'm just glad that one is over with and I've got great hopes for this one. I want to write the Pulitzer or the best selling novel this year. Shut up I can do it I know I can. It's rolling around up there in my brain along with the self pity, it just hasn't got to my fingers yet but it will and I can hope can't I, all you naysayers.

Talk soon,

Bob
